It was absolutely fabulous, Mind-blowing! It was filled to the brim with action and the adventure just never stops. With thrilling characters and an unbelievable plot, this book really hits the spot. Even though it is meant to be a horror book it actually made me sleep at night, because O just kept turning the pages!Highly recommended!
I've always loved Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider books, so I started reading the Power of Five. Although the first 3 books were good, they were not as great as the Alex Rider books in my POV. Yet, the 4th book was a game-changer, making the usually grim tale more poignant.Oblivion starts with the Five being scattered across the world after they went through the door in Hong Kong. Scarlett ends up in Egypt with Richard Cole (Matt's journalist friend), Pedro & Scott are captured by the Nightrise Corp in Italy, Jaime exits into a gated society in UK and finally, Matt is on the run in Brazil with Lohan (Scarlett's bodyguard). Also, they arrive 10 years in the future where the Old Ones have already wreaked massive havoc, making the world an unrecognizable place for the Five.The story follows different characters as the Five go through different trials to get together again in order to defeat the leader of the Old Ones (Chaos) in Oblivion, a place he chose for his final stand against the Five. To say more would be a massive giveaway.The part that haunts me most is when Richard ends up in a boxing ring with Matt (won't say more). I actually thought of giving up on the book then & took a good 30 min break before coming back to it. Unlike Harry Potter (which is my absolute favorite), this is not a fun series with lots of laughs to dull the gruesome details. These stories are heart-rending where none of the heroes have it easy, and their struggles are constant. Maybe AH should've made these books a bit less grim - but he brings the point across with a thumping kick in the gut.However, the last chapter was a redeemer, giving the sad sad saga of the Five an ending as happy as it was possible for them to have. All in all - the last book was a Stunning End to an Epic Tale!
Was not even available in the US when I ordered it! Had to get it out of Europe, guess it was still pretty new. This is a series I have been unable to out down. Like it WAY better than the Alex Rider Series. By far, this is Horowitz's best work yet!
This series has been one of the most rewarding series to read. From an unassuming start in a quite english town to the streets of Peru, and then to the rise of a shady corporation both in America and Hong Kong the Power of 5 series has become my favorite set of books. Oblivion takes what was started in the last 4 books and does the impossible, makes the scope grander, the character development richer, and the plot even more dire and surprising. The style the book is written in forces the read to finish the book in one sitting (though at 600 pages I wouldn't recommend that). This was the perfect final book in a series that consistently builds upon the greatness its predecessors in the series set forth. I recommend purchasing this now and not waiting till its American release, this is a great book with a storyline and adventurous plot that readers won't see coming.
I have been reading the Power of Five book for 7 years. With each book, the series became more complex, more detailed, and more wonderful. Very rarely am I so captivated by a series of books. Oblivion in particular blew me away. The book is split into sections that focus on each of the Gatekeepers as they make their way from all corners of the globe to their final destination, the battle at Oblivion and just how the old ones have effected the world around them. The story gripped me so much, that by the end of the book I was in tears. Every second was worth the wait for this book to come out. I can't recommend this book enough times to anyone who has ever picked up a part of this stunning series.
Wow! The four year wait was worth it. Oblivion, the last novel of the Power Of Five series, finally came out earlier this year. This novel deserves more than five stars, even the series itself! Oblivion forms part#5, the conclusion for a long going series called the Gatekeepers by Anthony Horowitz. With a very painful cliffhanger at the end of the fourth book, Necropolis, I have finally finished reading the conclusion of this wonderful series. SPOILER ALERT: The end was bittersweet, because the protaganist of the series is killed in order to save the future of humanity. This book blew my away by its superior standards!
